At Victoria House we support many different charities with our fundraising. Below are some of the examples of our fundraising:

Namaste Children's House

Save the Children - Festival of Trees

Age Concern

Action Medical Research - Bring Your Bear

Hands of Hope - Working with the poor and needy in Romania

Namaste Children's House - Isle of Man was set up in March 2005 to provide funds for Namaste Children's House in Pokhara, Nepal. The registered charity has a committee on the island who meet regularly to discuss ways in which money can be raised to support the orphanage. Victoria House has strong links with Nepal and we are privileged now to have adopted a young boy called Kiran Gurang.

Kiran Gurung

One early morning when the warm rays of summer sun of August were just touching the earth and the birds were just waking up and chirping, in the busy city of Pokhara, a very young child, around four years old, was found crying bitterly in unclaimed condition. Nobody knew who he was and where he was from. This news was published publicly for the relatives of him by Office of District Police, Kaski and several local media in Pokhara as well. No person came to claim him. No one wanted to keep him. He was given up. On the recommendation of the Office of District Police, Kaski, Kiran's fading life is now being refreshed by giving him protection at Omni Children's House.

Kiran is the very friendly and carefree boy in this house. He is often introduced as the first child of this house. He studies in Nursery. He is a very social and is never afraid of meeting new people. Kiran's face was badly burnt when he was younger but he doesn't allow this to make him even the least bit self-conscious. The smile that he carries with him everywhere he goes covers up any physical imperfection he may have. His smile is always the first thing you notice and it attracts anyone he sees. Being a child, of course some usual naughtiness is hidden in him too. He enjoys taking and hiding things of the older children time and again. He likes colouring pictures, watching cartoons and playing ball games.

Though his family didn't give him his introduction, the sponsorship that you are providing at Omni children's house is giving great opportunity to make his own bright identity by himself. I am grateful towards you and would like to thank you for your kindness and generosity.

Children from Victoria House Nursery have been getting into the spirit of the Festival of Trees.

The youngsters from the nursery, in Victoria Road, Douglas, not only made their own decorations for a tree as part of the Save the Children event but have also cast their votes for their favourite tree.

The youngest child to get involved was just 13 months old ant the eldest, a child who attends the after school club, was nine.

Nursery owner Carolyn Nicholson is on the Save the Children committee. "The children had all made the butterflies but to see it assembled it follows through their learning and they understand Christmas is about." she said. "From a business point of view it's a fantastic way of displaying what you are about."

More than 20 trees were unveiled at Ronaldsway Airport last week, and will be on display until January.

Passers by are able to make donations and vote for their favourite tree. It is hoped that the tree festival will raise more than £6,000 for Save the Children.

Age Concern - Isle of Man Lend a Hand

2009

Victoria House Nursery rang us
To ask if they could "lend a hand"
So they became Santa's little elves
We thought their trolleys were grand

Then they asked those lovely people
Who work in Shoprite Isle of Man
To ask if they could collect lots of food
And they replied "Of course we can"

And Santa is going to deliver them
When he is finished delivering your toys
So Thank You and Merry Christmas
To all of you lovely little Girls and Boys

A TROLLEY good idea from Victoria House Nursery means the children will, literally, be lending a hand to Age Concern Isle of Man this Christmas.

The nursery will be supporting the charity's Christmas hamper initiative this year by asking for donations to fill hampers for Age Concern's clients.

Cut-outs of the children's handprints have been used to decorate a 'Lend a Hand' Shoprite trolley in the Victoria Road, Douglas, shop, where customers can donate non-perishable goods for the hampers.

Nursery principal Carolyn Nicholson said: 'The nursery has very strong links with the local community.

'Initially Victoria House was going to pack and distribute boxes locally, until I heard Age Concern already had an annual Christmas hamper initiative.

'Shoprite, our near-neighbours in Victoria Road, very kindly lent us a trolley for the children to decorate and gave us permission to set it up in the store.

'They've also provided another two trolleys, so we'll be lending a hand at two more Shoprite branches, in Ramsey and Port Erin.'

Age Concern's Jennie Rowlinson said: 'For some years now a number of local companies and individuals have not only very generously donated items for our Christmas hampers but also helped pack and decorate them, so we're delighted Victoria House Nursery has chosen to join those who help our clients at this time of year.

'What better example of bridging the generation gap than to have the support of a children's nursery lending a hand at Christmas to older people in the Isle of Man?'

"Victoria House Nursery rang us
To ask if they could 'Lend a Hand'
So they decorated a shopping trolley
We all thought it looked really grand

Then they asked those lovely people
Who work in Shoprite Isle of Man
To ask if they could collect lots of food
And they replied "Of course we can"

We asked if Santa could deliver them
When he had finished brining you your toys
So Thank You very much from Age Concern
To all of the lovely little Girls and Boys
